Reasons To DisagreeSuch a treaty would be too slow and too ineffective. Enabling the poor to earn through trade and to communicate freely will deliver them faster and more enduring benefits. 7 September 2005

Reasons To AgreeI don't believe such a treaty would be too slow and ineffective. Other treaties and human rights-dependent aid have worked just fine in the past. The reason why jobs move from Western countries to places like China is because of their cheaper labour. How do you get cheaper labour? Pay them a pittance, ensure poor working conditions and lax labour laws, and violate human rights. An effective agreement, perhaps as part of WTO arrangements, would make all producers costs inclusive of minimum employment standards. 8 September 2005
