Reasons To DisagreeTeachers should have discretion to decide. A child might wear a full-length covering and be listening to headphones and watching a DVD movie underneath! 31 December 2005
Only if it is a school of their particular faith otherwise only at their particular temple, mosque or church. 28 November 2006
If it is of a nature which is likely to give offense to the majority, or can lead to abuse such as concealment of weapons etc, it should be banned. 16 March 2007
This would be just another aspect of the deliberate brainwashing of unformed minds, and is tantamount to child abuse. Why do children almost universally adopt the religion of their parents? It's not because they are making an informed choice. 27 July 2007
The real question here is, is it sensible for parents to choose the gear their kids wear according to the instructions of some militant extremists? If they set their kids apart by the way they dress, they must not be surprised when other kids behave like kids and take the mickey. 30 September 2007
Look, I respect people's religious rights, but if the kid doesn't want to wear a religious thing to school or somewhere, then the parents have no right to ram their views down their throats. 20 July 2008
Sorry. Creates too many problems. One person's crucifix is another person's full hijab. 10 October 2010
Fukk off!!! You choose to move to a secular country then live by their rules and cultures. No religion fullstop those idiots!! 11 August 2011

Reasons To AgreeUntil you are an adult you live under your parents rule, so long as they do not abuse you, it is their right to control aspects of your life - religion is one of them (of course if you get converted somehow, a parent would be a fool to try and force you back to their religion) 19 September 2005
This is a simple matter of personal and religious freedom. Who are we to tell others what they can and cannot wear!? It is also not for secular societies to decide what believers should do and should not do. It is a matter between the individual and their God 12 March 2006
If they feel they should, then yes. 16 July 2008
Absolutely, a parent has the right to raise a child with the ideals they believe in themselves. The state has no right to make a persons child a child of the state, thats perverted and something we would see in places like North Korea. Therefore a parent should be able to dress their child how they see fit. 23 June 2009
i think nz is a very diverse country and we should show it. children learn from there parents and if they are raised right then they should know right from wrong. If the children take the micky out of that child then obviously the parents need to teach their child a bit better. Also if people are being constricted in what they wear or are afraid to wear them then what does that show about are country? and if we do not show your religion then it might be forgotten 17 August 2011

Reasons for Remain Neutral
Needs more carification
Only if the child wishes to wear it, perhaps they do not wish to? Also should be limited, the child should still be able to be recognised as part of the school by its uniform.
