Reasons To DisagreeMuch of a countries charachter, it's core values and culture are determined by the dominant religion. I hold no particular religious belief but I value the morality and values of my Christian heritage - whether we like it or not that is how this country was founded and the values on which it is shaped - there is much good and much to cherish in that. It is also important to note that the only country in the world that has tried to ban religion is China - a communist nation. Most other nations support their central religion quite proudly (France would be an exception - but they have at least not banned it as China tried to do.) As I said I am not religious but I belive the religion has an active role in protecting and defending the nations values and morality for the good of society in general. I support a Christian State religion - without compulsion. 14 March 2007
NZ common law, promotion of equality and much of our tolarance comes from our christian background. We shouldn't apologise for this. 28 October 2007
The Anglican church ought to have official status 22 March 2014

Reasons To AgreeMost people do not hold strong religious beliefs. Giving one group precedence is undemocratic. This does not mean that our social system should not reflect a Christian viewpoint. 16 March 2007
To have a state religion is to put everybody who does not follow that religon in a secondary status. There is no place for this in a true democracy. The notion that religion is the foundation of morality is absurd. I need no religion to have a highly developed sense of morality that I adhere to in all that I do. New Zealand needs to have an offical position of respect and support for all beliefs, religious or not, that do not attempt to impose themselves on other people. 16 March 2007
No rational person entertains any religion. 30 September 2007
We are a diverse nation whose beliefs can not be summed up by one religion 29 June 2011
religon is the source of so much conflict 18 July 2011
Individuals should practice what they want, the state has no role/relevance declaring a state religion (unless the state in question is Iran) 12 August 2011
we are a free country and should stay that way!!! 17 August 2011
It should be stated in the bill of right that no religion can be supported or established by the government, nor can a religion be forbidden, unless that religion violates other civil rights. 2 December 2012

Reasons for Remain Neutral
NZ has no state religion.
I was under the impression this was already the case?
religion should be always of free will and by having a state religion the social pressure will force one to believe. OI think the people should encourage religion but now make it official
